Tristan Mears

Specialist Accommodation Broker
Northwest VIC & Southwest NSW

Tristan Mears is a natural relationship builder who brings to ResortBrokers the experience of running his own successful business.

Based in Berriganin NSW’s Riverina region, Tristan looks after Northwest VIC and Southwest NSW, which includes Albury, Robinvale, Swan Hill, Barham, Echuca, Moama, Shepparton, Tocumwal, Cobram, Deniliquin, Barooga, Benalla, Wangaratta, Wagga Wagga, and many other regional towns.

Tristan is born and bred country NSW, having grown up in Gulgong, about 20 minutes’ drive north of Mudgee. He is no stranger to the region he now serves, having lived in Berrigan for the last three years with his wife and their newborn son. Tristan is well known in the Riverina area, helped by his wife’s role as the town’s sole police officer.

“Berrigan is great, and we’re happy to have made it our home,” says the 27-year-old. “Many of the towns in my zone I know very well because I’m an avid footy player and travel there to play. Country towns can be very sports orientated. Playing sport is a great way to fit in and meet people. I love forging new connections with people and developing relationships.”

For two and a half years immediately prior to joining ResortBrokers in 2025, Tristan operated his own executive recruitment agency specialising in financial planning and wealth management. He had worked for other agencies in the same capacity for several years and backed himself to go out on his own.

Through hard work and fostering relationships, Tristan grew the net profit of his Sydney CBD-based agency to $200,000 within its first 12 months. In the second year, he boosted profits by a further 180%.

“Through significant business development, we broke into the US and Canadian markets, which is where 90% of the agency’s business was generated,” he says. “We also had clients in the UK, parts of Europe as well as Australia.”

“Word of mouth was key for us. We had great relationships with candidates we placed in different roles. We’d get multiple referrals on both sides of the recruitment process that enabled us to build our business.”

Tristan takes the same approach to serving his clients in Northwest VIC and Southwest NSW, an area that includes approximately 300 accommodation businesses.

“Building genuine trust by offering great service is what I’m all about,” says Tristan. “I don’t really have a ‘sales approach.’ I’d rather forge strong relationships with people and build those relationships over time. Rather than going in all sales-y, I’m more inclined to ask, ‘What does this person want to achieve? How can I help them get there?’ If you build relationships and trust, then sales follow naturally as a biproduct.”

Earlier in his career, Tristan worked for three years signing people up for donations to several charitable causes, which saw him knocking on doors and generating great revenue for people who needed it most.

“Most people were very friendly, but you do learn to pick up people’s tones very quickly,” he says. “You know when to keep the conversation going or to back away.”

“It’s exciting for me to be able to forge new relationships from scratch. Hopefully, if you do the right thing, people come back to you again and again years later.”
