Giving Back

Giving Back

At ResortBrokers, we believe the spirit of giving is at the core of success, that true success begins the moment we start giving back.

As Sir Winston Churchill said, “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” So, here are some of the ‘life-giving’ projects we support.

RISE @ COMMON GROUND

Tim Douge of Resilience Healthcare and his team are behind an amazing initiative by a South Brisbane housing project, Common Ground Queensland, supporting people at risk of homelessness. So we got behind them to support the program.

‘Rise @ Common Ground’ offers group fitness sessions twice a day, encouraging tenants to pursue physical activity or make better lifestyle choices. There is mounting evidence of the benefits of exercise in structured and inclusive environments, particularly in relation to managing mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, PTSD and schizophrenia, which are prevalent in the homeless and at-risk population.

Community support has also helped them produce a dietician program to help tenants learn about healthy food choices through shopping tours, seminars and one-on-one health coaching if needed, and home exercise packs so residents with chronic diseases can pursue their health independently.

MOVEMBER FOUNDATION

In 2018, some of the guys in our ResortBrokers team were itching (literally!) to help the brotherhood by getting into the spirit of Movember.

The Movember Foundation, with the mission of ‘stopping men dying too young’, is the leading charity addressing some of the biggest health issues faced by men: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health and suicide prevention.

In 15 years, the Movember Foundation has funded more than 1,200 men’s health projects around the world. And we were more than happy to suffer for the cause. So, a ‘Mo Bros’ team was formed and the volunteers and sponsorship started rolling in.

After consigning the razors to the bathroom cupboard for the month in a valiant attempt to champion a mo for a terrific cause, the team raised more than $4,000 for the foundation.

TRACTION

TRACTION is a contemporary, grassroots charitable program that delivers tangible benefits for young people and their families in the local community through hands-on engagement. The aim is to empower young people in need, helping them positively engage with their communities, discover their talents and create their own future.

TRACTION provides early intervention options in collaboration with schools, community groups, referral agencies and linkage partners, seeking to primarily re-engage 12-15 year olds who are not achieving their potential in a traditional school environment.  They seek to help these young people build confidence, practical, social and life skills, reclaim the joy of learning, and contribute positively in the community. Whilst TRACTION delivers 1-day mobile (‘pop up’) workshops, programs typically run over a single school term where young people, under the guidance of mentors, and in a workshop-like environment, learn and develop practical skills. Programs include Bicycle Build and Maintenance, Small Engines, Permaculture, Boom Box (e-waste recycling, fabrication and electronics).

In every instance, participants are encouraged to work hard and embrace the difficulty in learning something new and develop a sense of pride and self-worth in their own success.
